The Rest of the Story

Do Not Mock God

This may offend some people, but it needs to be said. I see posts on Facebook and elsewhere that say something like, “click on this and God will heal you of all of your illnesses or send something of value your way.” That makes me sad and sometimes angry.

God does provide our needs in many ways even when we don’t deserve it, but God does not do magic on command. I am sure those posts are intended to remind us that God can solve our problems; however, as much as you may like communicating on Facebook or other social media platforms – God has always accepted your prayers in private. What we must understand, God knows what is best for you and the perfect timing.

God loves group prayers that show love for someone in need or for a common good; however, those prayers are offered up with “if it is Your will.” Sometimes we are in pain or stressed to the point where we want immediate relief. What we don’t think about at that time is that God may be using us to help others to see Him. Others may be watching how you are dealing with your problems to understand the power that being a Christian provides.

With our faith, we know God is with us during those difficult periods in our lives and He will not leave us. We cannot see all that God sees, but we must believe that God has the best plan for us. Our message to others should be to “Take your problems to God and trust that He will help you get to the best solution.” Sometimes we need to fix problems internally before things change externally. There are times when we are so focused on our needs that we fail to notice others with much greater needs. Time spent helping others in greater need may help you see your own problems in a different light.

Here is a reminder of how Jesus said we should pray to God.

Matthew 6:9-13 New King James Version

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
[a]For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
