I was running errands this morning, to be busy on this Christmas Eve morning when a song began to play that I did not remember hearing. I know I have heard it several times before because it is an old recording from one of Elvis Presley’s albums. Eva loved Christmas and she loved Christmas music. She loved singing and it seemed like she knew the words to thousands of songs.
I sometimes wonder what her life would have been like if she had chosen singing as a career and not being a wife and mother. She found a way to have all she ever wanted and used her singing to glorify God. Back to the song – the lyrics to this song are so true and may apply to almost all of us.
Christmas is a special time for families with the excitement of sharing gifts and eating tasty food that someone prepared for their loved ones. Just being with family and praising God for how we have been blessed. While Eva is not here with me this year, she is still present in my heart and my mind is full of memories of our life together. Crazy as it may sound, I thank God that she is with Him this Christmas.
Elvis Presley: We Call on Him
We call on Him
Whenever storm clouds gather
We call on Him to light our darkest day
Why must it be that only when we’re lonely
And hopes are dim, we call on Him
Why don’t we call on Him before we lose our way
To count our blessings and thank Him while we may
We call on Him when no one else will answer
We ask of Him a reason to go on
When our cup of joy becomes a cup of sorrow
Filled to the brim, we call on Him
Why don’t we call on Him before we lose our way
To count our blessings and thank Him while we may
