The Rest of the Story

In the Beginning

I do not remember when I first had thoughts or questions about where or when life began. I do remember being taught in school about different theories about the origin of life, one of those was Darwin’s theory of natural selection. By that age, I had some understanding of God and the Bible. However, our society was different at that time and the vast majority were people of faith in God. The idea of evolution was a concept of a few people trying to provide answers to questions that few people would care to ask.

As I got older, I learned more about science and biology at school, and I learned more about the Bible and God at church. When I graduated from high school in 1961, Darwin’s theory was still just a theory or an idea that was based on his views in 1859. I was unaware of my friends, teachers, or family taking it seriously. The first DNA sequences were obtained in the early 1970s by researchers that provided a first glimpse into the complexities of animals and plants. Now more than fifty years later, we still only know a small fraction about the entire DNA sequences.

What we do know is that the DNA that controls our sex, hair color, eye color, skin color, general size, and much more is set at conception before the baby takes form. We also know now that from 1859 to 2024, not one example of a fossil has been discovered of anything that would show the transition from one kind of animal to another. Despite any evidence of it ever occurring, many people have made the idea a religion they believe in. This religion gets further expanded by the idea that at the beginning there was nothing but space with one tiny dot in all of the universe until one second there was a big bang when that dot expanded creating everything. The sun, planets including the Earth all came from that dot. The first life form of a single cell would evolve into two cells and then into an animal form and continue to evolve into the human form that exists today. Scientists tell us that DNA is very complex and determines everything about our features and even our health; however, some scientists will say that DNA was not created by intelligent design or by a higher power like God.

During my 81 years, I have seen huge progress with the development of cars, airplanes, spacecraft, phones, televisions, computers, houses, buildings, roads, and everything we enjoy today. Just within the past three years, we have seen scientists try to create immunity to a virus by trying to modify a part of our DNA to react to the virus after receiving the vaccine instead of the normal process of our body developing natural immunity when exposed to the virus. In my opinion, that was a terrible failure. The fact that the virus even existed proves that some scientists are involved with evil activities.

Over my lifetime, I have had experiences that have helped me grow in my faith and spend more time studying the Bible, praying, and researching through other sources. I have read many opinions on hundreds of subjects, and I have a good understanding of the differences between opinions and facts. I have seen examples of people accepting one opinion as fact, not because they have any facts to support their belief, but because they know they do not want to accept the other option could be true. Something happened in their life, and they are angry with god so therefore God can not exist. Perhaps, they have done some things, and they want to believe if there is no god, then they cannot be judged.

I believe that once a person understands that temptations and evil never come from God and their source is from the devil, they have begun the path that leads to God. As mere humans, we want to believe that faith in God protects us from harm. That if God truly loves us, we will not suffer any pain, illnesses, or loss of a loved one. God does not tell us that, but those are ideas that the devil would have us believe so that when problems come our way, he can tell us “See there is no god.”

The percentage of people who say they believe in God is much lower than at any point in my lifetime. During that time, I have seen activities that were considered evil in the past that are considered normal (good) today. Things that were once considered good are now viewed as bad (evil). That by itself should be enough for most people to see the truth that is contained in the Bible. In the Bible, you can read how God dealt we the people in other periods who had accepted those very same evil activities and had turned their backs on God.

God sent His Son Jesus to be a human child, that His life would be threatened with death even as a small baby by the government. Jesus would grow into adulthood without ever accepting temptations to sin, He would share the true meaning of the Scriptures with all, and then be crucified on a cross after being found innocent of breaking any Roman law. Three days later, He arose from the grave to show His power over death and that He truly was the Messiah. During His ministry, Jesus confirmed the accuracy of the Scriptures of the past.

John 1:1-14 New International Version

The Word Became Flesh
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome a it.

6There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
