The Rest of the Story

Eva’s Story

Eva posted these remarks on her Facebook page on March 20, 2013.

It all started in late Nov. 1951 when the Ray family moved from the Heights to the house on Heatherwood and Richard transferred to Barrick Elem. where I was already a student. I went home that day and told my mother there was a new boy in my class and I was going to marry him someday! We went the rest of the way thru school together graduating in 1961 but we never dated. In September 1963 he was looking for someone new to date and his younger sister suggested me (we went to the same church). He called and we started dating. On Valentine’s Day 1964 after I proposed (it was a leap year) I received an engagement ring. The next morning I asked my mother if she remembered me telling her back in third grade that I was going to marry a little boy, then I told her that Richard was that boy and showed her my ring. Our friends all told me to break up with him, that he would never settle down and I would only get hurt. Most of these are now into their 2nd, some even 3rd marriages. On March 21st after only 4 days of preparation, we had a church wedding with around 200 guests. After 49 years we are still married and still in love. Happy anniversary to the love of my life!
