The Rest of the Story

Focus Change

When things have been turned upside down and all that you have worked for seems now out of reach, it is much harder to focus your thoughts and actions. I have found it helps to make a list that you can look at during troubling times to clear your head and focus. Here are the things I believe need to be our focus for the future.

  • Everyone is Equal: equal under the laws with the laws applied exactly the same regardless of skin color, religion, or stature in life (wealth, income, job, or position).
  • Freedom of Speech: everyone is free to say or think whatever they choose regardless if others agree or disagree, this includes freedom of the use of words that may offend others.
  • A representative form of Government: every elected person is elected to represent us and to do things for us and not their self-interest and they must be held to that standard.
  • Families: our government and all elected and non-elected employees must serve to protect the families and our way of life, no laws should encourage the breakup of the family, and programs must be developed to help with keeping households containing both mother and father for children’s future.
  • Jobs: a job is the most important thing to stabilize a family and instill self-worth and provide an example to children.
  • Education: good education based on sound and simple principles that include an accurate and complete history, civics, economics, communication skills, and common sense skills needed for raising a family.
  • Faith: this country was founded by people of faith, while not perfect, people who understood that our faith helps to shape our lives and our decisions. Freedom to worship the faith of our choosing.

Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.”

John 13:7 “Jesus answered him, “What I’m doing you don’t understand now, but afterward you will know.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8 “The man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed. He will be like a tree planted by water; it sends its roots out toward a stream, it doesn’t fear when heat comes and its foliage remains green. It will not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit.”

Isaiah 43:2 “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire and the flame will not burn you.”

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Psalm 40:4 “How happy is the man who has put his trust in the Lord and has not turned to the proud or to those who run after lies!”

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore, don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Proverbs 31:25 “Stress and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the time to come.”
