Eva stayed busy with many tasks at home, helped at school, and at church. For years, she did a lot of sewing and cake decorating along with other hobbies. She was part of a trio group at church, singing special music, and the trio sang with the men’s quartet group sometimes. Some days, she would sit down with a Hymnal or other music and sing one song after another. I located a cassette that had thirty minutes of her singing many songs in that session. The songs below were extracted from cassette tapes of her singing the songs with no music. I did not include all the songs because she was further away from the cassette recorder, and the noise from the old tapes made it too difficult to understand much of the songs.
Sharing these songs for family and friends to help us remember her voice during better times.
Because He Lives
How Great Thou Art
Until Then
I Traveled Down a Lonely Road and No One Seemed To Care
One Day at a Time
Because He Lives
God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone,
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
And then one day, I’ll cross the river,
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to victory,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
How Great Thou Art
Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Until Then
My heart can sing when I pause to remember
A heartache here is but a stepping stone
Along the trail that’s winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home.
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I’ll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold my savior,
Until the day God calls me home.
This weary world with all its toil and struggle
May take its toll of misery and strife;
The soul of man is like a waiting falcon;
When it’s released, it’s destined for the skies.
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I’ll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold my savior,
Until the day God calls me home.
I traveled down a lonely road And no one seemed to care
I traveled down a lonely road And no one seemed to care;
The burden on my weary back Had bowed me to despair,
I oft complained to Jesus How folks were treating me,
And then I heard Him say so tenderly,
“My feet were also weary, Upon the Calv’ry road;
The cross became so heavy, I fell beneath the load,
Be faithful weary pilgrim, The morning I can see,
Just lift your cross and follow close to me.”
“I work so hard for Jesus” I often boast and say,
“I’ve sacrificed a lot of things To walk the narrow way,
I gave up fame and fortune, I’m worth a lot to Thee,”
And then I hear Him gently say to me.
“I left the throne of glory And counted it but loss,
My hands were nailed in anger Upon a cruel cross,
But now we’ll make the journey With your hand safe in mine,
So lift your cross and follow close to me.
Oh, Jesus if I die upon A foreign field some day,
‘Twould be no more than love demands No less could I repay,
“No greater love hath mortal man Than for a friend to die”
These are the words He gently spoke to me,
“If just a cup of water I place within your hand
Then just a cup of water Is all that I demand,”
But if by death to living They can thy glory see,
I’ll take my cross and follow close to thee.
One Day at a Time
I’m only human
Lord I’m just a woman
Help me believe in what I can be and all that I am
Show me the mountain
You’ve have to climb
And Lord for my sake teach me to take one day at a time
One day at a time, Lord Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you
Just give me the strength to do everyday
All that I have to do
Oh yesterday’s gone, Lord Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine
Lord help me to take
show me thy way one day at a time
Do you remember how you walked among men?
Well Jesus the way that we’re living today
It’s much worse now than then
Now the’re pushing and shoving and the’re crowding my mind
Lord for my sake, teach me to take one day at a time
One day at a time, Lord Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you
Just give me the strength to do everyday
All that I have to do
Oh yesterday’s gone, Lord Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine
Lord help me to take
show me thy way one day at a time.
