The Rest of the Story

Eva’s Songs from Practice Tapes-2

These songs were all pulled from old practice cassette tapes of Eva singing songs while recording on a cassette tape recorder. Some parts may be hard to hear because she is singing so softly and away from the recorder. These tapes are about forty years old. She could hear a song one time and then sing it later without the music. After 58 years of marriage, I am still amazed. I am so thankful that I had not gotten rid of those old tapes. It may be weird, but hearing her voice again makes me feel still in her presence.

I have provided the lyrics to these songs below, and they may help you understand the words in the part where she is singing softly.

Eva, I love you.

It Is Real

Had It Not Been

He Just Loves Me More and More

My God Is Real

It’s Real
O how well do I remember how I doubted day by day,

For I did not know for certain that my sins were washed away;
When the Spirit tried to tell me, I would not the truth receive.
I endeavored to be happy, and to make myself believe.

When the truth came close and searching, all my joy would disappear.
For I did not have the witness of the Spirit bright and clear;
If at times the coming judgment would appear before my mind,
O it made me so uneasy, for God’s smile I could not find.

But at last I tired of living such a life of fear and doubt.
For I wanted God to give me something I would know about;
So the truth would make me happy, and the light would clearly shine,
And the Spirit gave assurance that I’m His and He is mine.

And it’s real, it’s real,
O I know it’s real;
Praise God, the doubts are settled,
For I know, I know it’s real.

So I prayed to God in earnest, and not caring what folks said.
I was hungry for the blessing; my poor soul it must be fed;
When at last by faith I touched Him, and, like sparks from smitten steel,
Just so quick salvation reached me; O bless God, I know it’s real!

And it’s real, it’s real,
O I know it’s real;
Praise God, the doubts are settled,
For I know, I know it’s real.

And it’s real, it’s real,
O I know it’s real;
Praise God, the doubts are settled,
For I know, I know it’s real.

Had It Not Been
 Just suppose God searched through Heaven

Couldn’t find one willing to be
The supreme sacrifice that was needed
That could buy eternal life for you and me

O had it not been for a place called Mount Calvary
Had it not been for the old rugged cross
Had it not been for a man called Jesus
Then forever my soul would be lost

I’m so glad He was willing to drink His bitter cup
Although He prayed, “Father, let it pass from me”
And I’m so glad He never called Heaven’s angels
From my hands, pulled the nails that torment me

O had it not been for a place called Mount Calvary
Had it not been for the old rugged cross
And, had it not been for a man called Jesus
Then forever my soul would be lost

He Just Loves Me More and More
Outside of Jerusalem on Golgotha’s hill

A savior was dying to do the Father’s will
And through all the suffering and pain that He bore

He just loves me more and more
O He just loves me more and more
On that old cross my sin He bore
Why He loves me so I’ll never know, never know
But He just loves me more and more

Inside New Jerusalem I’ll see my dear Lord
And all of the treasures that Heaven can afford
And my eyes have never seen what my Lord has in store

But He just loves me more and more
O He just loves me more and more
On that old cross my sin He bore
Why He loves me so I’ll never know, never know
But He just loves me more and more
He just loves me more and more

My God Is Real
There are some things I may not know,

There are some places I can’t go,
But I am sure of this one thing
That God is real for I can feel Him deep within.

My God is real, He’s real in my soul,
My God is real for He has washed and made me whole;
His love for me is like pure gold,
My God is real for I can feel Him in my soul.

Some folks may doubt, some folks may scorn,
All can desert and leave me alone,
But as for me I’ll take God’s plan
For God is real and I can feel Him in my heart.

My God is real, He’s real in my soul,
My God is real for He has washed and made me whole;
His love for me is like pure gold,
My God is real for I can feel Him in my soul.

I cannot tell just how He felt
When Jesus took my sins away,
But since that day, yes, since that hour
God has been real for I can feel His holy pow’r.

My God is real, He’s real in my soul,
My God is real for He has washed and made me whole;
His love for me is like pure gold,
My God is real for I can feel Him in my soul.
