The Rest of the Story

My Mom Sung Me Lullabies

Today, my mom would have been 82 years old. As I laid here tonight singing lullabies to put my grandbabies to sleep like I do every night, I had so many beautiful memories running through my head. The first house we lived in after I was born had a formal living room just as you entered the house. We had a big fluffy rocking chair in the corner. My mom would rock me to sleep everyday for nap and at night. I can still hear her voice singing those songs. I don’t know how old (young) I was but we moved from that house when I was 6. Mom didn’t always sing lullabies although she sang “You are my sunshine” a lot. Many times it would be hymns we sang in church or it would be the solos she would sing at church like “One day at a time” or “Old rugged cross”. Mom would record herself singing and if she was sick and her throat hurt, she would put the tape recorder beside the rocker and play it and rock me, always making sure I still heard her voice. I feel blessed that God gave me the same singing talent he gave my Mom. I don’t know if she ever knew just how much it meant to me when she would sing to me. My mom loved her family. She loved being a mom, a grandma and I know she would have loved being a great grandma. Happy heavenly birthday Mom. I love you and miss you so much.
