The Rest of the Story

Charlie Kirk – Paul

Many books will be written about Charlie over the next several years, and there will be at least one written about his killer. I expect a movie to be made about the assassination, and I wonder if it will be biased. I have been a student of politics since my high school years, and for the past few years, I have been following Charlie Kirk’s speeches.

Social media has changed a lot since 2012, when Charlie, at 18, got his first publication with Breitbart News. He was not on my radar back then, and I did not know he existed. Sometime during the past four years, I started noticing short videos on Facebook of him at various university campuses. I also watched segments on Fox News programs that included him. When I get interested and want to know more about a subject or a person, I do research. I had watched hours of him speaking with college students and debates between him and university professors before I learned he had dropped out of community college to start Turning Point USA.

I don’t know anything about his early childhood or family, other than that I know he married the love of his life and has a daughter and a son. Others will write those books, and if I live long enough for them to be published, I will buy one.

The early videos I watched show a highly intelligent Charlie focused on discussing politics with people of his generation. He went to them and let them question him, and he would have a respectful dialogue about what they believed and then made them think about why they believed what they just said. Over time, more discussions were on current events like riots/mostly peaceful demonstrations, and attacks on the traditional family.

Charlie became a strong advocate for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, but without preaching. His approach was to encourage the person to explain why they believed in atheism and moral values. He had a wealth of knowledge with instant response regarding Bible verses and the message included. He was always kind, respectful, and thanked each person for coming to the microphone to discuss their subject. Sometimes his response and the way he said it made me think that would have been the way Jesus would have answered.

I am sure Turning Point has a list of all his events and the times he was booked on TV shows. Someone will take that information and produce a map showing his travels around the country and other places around the world. When I think of that, I compare his travels to those of Apostle Paul.

Paul/Saul was well educated in the Jewish teachings and was dedicated to the persecution against the early church to stop the spread of Christianity. On the road to Damascus, Saul is blinded by a spotlight from heaven, and he hears the voice of Jesus asking why he is persecuting Me. Paul received the Holy Spirit, and God healed his blindness. Paul began his ministry of sharing the good news with the Gentiles during his many travels and started churches for thirty-five years.

In his own way, Charlie started many local offices of Turning Point USA around the country that work to educate and change the minds of young people. They not only make them aware of the greatness of the foundation of this country, but also that belief in God and God’s values is what makes America stand above all other nations. Some will question why God would allow the killing of Charlie if he was truly doing God’s work, and we don’t always understand in the moment. Perhaps America and the World need to be shocked to their senses at how evil our societies have become. Maybe Charlie’s death will bring real change, and history will show how that event made an impact. Jesus was about thirty-three.
